Android
Android is an operating system for mobile devices like smartphones, netbooks and tablets.
It has been developed as an open source operating system by Google. Open source means that it can be modified and customized by developers for each phone. The first smartphone running with Android was released in October 2008.
Meanwhile Android is used for a lot of different devices e.g. Sony Xperia, Samsung Galaxy or Google Nexus One. Since it runs on various mobile devices, it has by far the largest install base of all mobile operating systems. In addition to the operating system for mobile devices, Google has also developed an Android version for televisions, cars and wrist watches.
Android devices are usually equipped with apps from the Google Play Store. Furthermore, the Google Play Store represents with almost 2.5 million applications available the biggest app trading platform ahead of Apple’s App Store and the Amazon App Store.
